This course aims to develop an advanced level of academic communication to finalize research projects using appropriate research methods. Students analyze and synthesize their research findings to orally present and to write academic papers using APA style. This course is a companion course for WLC 400 (Major Capstone). Taught in Japanese.
My Experience:
This class was challenging, but incredibly beneficial. This class served to be my first step into the realm of written professional Japanese. Since this was a companion class to my capstone class, we often took time to work on the Japanese aspects of our Capstone such as clarification and proofreading. Something that was extremely beneficial for me was the assistance we often received from Japanese exchange students. I tried to take advantage of class and use it as an opportunity to pass my capstone through as many drafts as possible so I might be as perfect as possible when presenting my research during the capstone festival. Even though the festival ended up being a virtual event with pre-recorded presentations, I feel that the presentational skills that I gained during this are immensely valuable. I was able to gain a new understanding to many facets and forms of written Japanese and it greatly increased the materials I feel comfortable reading and writing about. This class allowed me to enter the realm of academic Japanese. While I have far from mastered the skills introduced in this class, I have gained new avenues to explore and new ways to bolster my Japanese with new materials, such as: academic journals, news articles and research papers. I also expanded upon my known vocabulary to include professional forms of expression, statistical terms, and comparative language.
