My Experience:
In this course, I worked to develop my skills in a professional manner while also detailing the requirements for graduation under the Japanese Language and Culture B.A.. My work in this course involved assignments along the lines of developing a resume, and learning of career opportunities available to me with a major in the World Language and Culture department. During this course, I identified the individual Major Learning Outcomes detailed within my major and learned about what they entailed in preparation for my upper division coursework. This course also presented me with several disciplines available to language majors, such as, linguistics, literature and the subdivisions within them. This course also explored research methods available at CSUMB along with several research topics that I could use for my Capstone project. In professional development, my course mates and I refined our personal statements and explored post-graduation options, such as masters programs in the community. The overall take-away from this course was a road-map into my Upper-Division courses and the preliminary preparations for study abroad and graduation. This class also included a snapshot assessment of my Japanese proficiency.
